Mage Leveling Guide
As a Mage you will be able to control all of the elements of World of Warcraft. With control over the elemental wonders, you can show great strength with single targets and multiple targets as well. All of their attacks a Mage possesses allow them to do so from a distance and most do damage to large areas in which your targets are in.
They are gifted with the ability to help increase the abilities of the people around them. The abilities don’t stop there; Mages have the power to summon portals to anywhere in Azeroth. These portals can be used by all members of the Mage’s group. They can also create large amounts of food and drink, giving you an ongoing supply of health and mana. Because of these perks, you will often see Mages in raid or PvP groups.

Many enemies have something that they have a resistance too. With Mages, you have a wide range of elemental abilities, enough in fact to always have something that your enemy does not have a resistance too. This is helpful when you are dealing with multiple types of enemies, from different backgrounds. Never will the Mage find themselves without a spell that will do the most damage possible. Because of these powerful area attacks, Mages are often used in high level raids.
With the use of cloth armor, Mage's protection is nowhere near their overpowering damage. If you can have someone with you to help protect you while you are leveling you will find it a much quicker process.
Both your armor and your weapon will never be used for combat, but they can be very helpful in enhancing your abilities and spells. Sense the base of all your attacks is from spells; you will almost never use your weapon for attack. Because you will never use it in a melee battle, your weapon's abilities are much more important than the damage that it can do.
With only being able to do damage (DPS), Mages have a wonderful opportunity to truly personalize their talent tree. With three trees dealing with three main elements (Frost, Arcane, and Fire), you will have a great deal of choices when spending your talent points. As it stands now, I have not found one talent tree that stands out more than the others. Arcane is a great build if you are looking for a lot of damage when it comes to AoE damage, but if you are looking for damage over time you will want to turn to Fire.

If you decide to level using quests you will want to make your talent build in Fire until you get to level 60 and then switch to Frost. But if you decide that you want to use dungeons to level, I suggest using Arcane because it gives you such great area damage.
Even though the Mage can destroy any and all types of characters with so many different types of spells; they have a huge flaw when it comes to their armor.
When looking for a group make sure you have a good deal of characters who have strong plated armor so that they may be able to protect you from attacks. Because leveling is so difficult, many players give up early in the Mage process. Once past the leveling problems you will find that Mages are a great class to play.
